About the Plano Fire-Rescue Explorers
Explorer Post 215 provides young men and women age 14 to 20 opportunities to explorer the fire service as a career while providing experiences which help develop interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills. Explorers not only get an immersive first-hand look at the fire service, but they are also given the opportunity to enjoy organized recreational activities, competitive events, and community interaction while working in a professional atmosphere.
As an Explorer, you will be exposed to all aspects of public safety, with a particular emphasis placed on fire and EMS skillsets. After the successful completion of orientation and basic fire training programs, explorers receive a station assignment and are allowed to ride on Plano Fire-Rescue apparatus to emergencies to observe and provide supportive actions (such as rehab) during major incidents. The objectives of the explorer training are to promote learning, teamwork, leadership, and organization with a hands-on approach that allows the member to experience fire department operations under the close supervision of professionals.
Requirements for Membership
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be fourteen* to twenty years old
*must have already completed the eighth grade
- Either be enrolled to attend, attending high school, graduated from high school or have a GED
- Maintain a minimum of a B average when in school
- If a minor, permission from parents or legal guardian to participate in the Explorer Program
- Be able to attend a majority of program activities (Tuesday night meetings, weekend activities)
